Apple unveils new iPod lineup

SAN FRANCISCO, Sep. 2, 2010 (Kyodo News International) -- Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) unveiled Wednesday fully redesigned iPod media players, including the iPod nano which is nearly half the size and weight of the previous generation.

Apple started accepting orders the same day for the new iPod nano, iPod touch and iPod shuffle, which will be available next week.

The iPod nano has a touch screen which allows users to navigate their music collections by tapping a finger on the display. The nano is priced at $149 for the 8 gigabyte model and $179 for the 16 gigabyte version.

The iPod touch, the thinnest and lightest in the new generation, is equipped with a front-facing camera and microphone, which enable users to make video calls via a Wi-Fi network to other new iPod touch or iPhone 4 users. The touch costs $229 for the 8 gigabyte model and $299 for the 32 gigabyte version.

The redesigned iPod shuffle is priced at $49 for the 2 gigabyte model.

In Japan, the new iPod series will also be available beginning next week, according to Apple Japan Inc.

The iPod nano is priced at 13,800 yen for the 8 gigabyte model and 16,800 yen for the 16 gigabyte model. Prices of the iPod touch range from 20,900 yen and the iPod shuffle costs 4,800 yen.
