TOKYO, Aug. 29, 2010 (Kyodo News International) -- The head of the U.N. Convention on Biological Diversity visited Haneda airport in Tokyo on Sunday to see a Japan Airlines (OOTC:JALFQ) plane bearing on its exterior the logo of a U.N. conference on biodiversity scheduled to take place in Nagoya in October.
Ahmed Djoghlaf, executive secretary of the Convention on Biological Diversity, said after looking at the plane in a hangar at the airport that he hopes the aircraft would enhance passengers' awareness of biodiversity.
The Boeing (NYSE:BA) 777 aircraft bearing the logo, comprising colorful origami papers folded in the shapes of humans and animals arranged in a circle to represent the coexistence of people and various living organisms, began operating in June with the aim of promoting the biodiversity conference.
Following Djoghlaf's visit at Haneda airport, JAL said its president, Masaru Onishi, will give a speech on JAL's efforts to protect the environment at a conference reception scheduled on Oct. 20 in Nagoya.
