Igor moves toward Newfoundland coast

- Relentless winds and pounding rain battered Bermuda Monday as Hurricane Igor passed by the island and headed toward the Canadian coast, forecasters said.
- Igor, moving in a north-northeasterly direction at 20 mph, was expected to pass offshore of the southeastern tip of Newfoundland Tuesday, the National Hurricane Center said in its 5 a.m EDT advisory.
- A tropical storm watch was posted for the Newfoundland coast from Stones Grove to Jones Harbor.

British troops to redeploy from Sangin

- British troops have turned the responsibility of securing one of the most dangerous places in Afghanistan over to U.S. Marines, a military commander said.
- The British forces will be redeployed from Sangin, where they've been for four years, to another region in central Helmand Province, the BBC reported Monday.
- Sangin is one of the central locations of the opium trade in southern Afghanistan, and has traditionally supported the Taliban, the BBC said.

Missing religious group found safe

- Authorities in Southern California said Sunday they found the 13 members of a small religious group they had feared might have made a suicide pact.
- The group's alleged leader, Reyna Marisol Chicas, 32, was being held for questioning but no one had been charged, the Los Angeles Times reported.
- Members of the group was found about noon sitting on blankets on the grass under a pine tree at Jackie Robinson Park east of Palmdale after a resident who had seen news reports about the group called the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, the Times said.

- Jay Cutler found the end zone three times with touchdown passes Sunday and the Chicago Bears upended Dallas 27-20 in the Cowboys' home opener.
- Cutler connected with Devin Hester, Greg Olsen and Matt Forte for scores, amassing 277 yards on 21-of-29 passing for the Bears, who have posted their first 2-0 start since 2006, when they advanced to the Super Bowl.
- Dallas quarterback Tony Romo had a fine day statistically, completing 34-of-51 passes for 374 yards with one touchdown, but he was plagued by Chicago cornerback D.J. Moore, who picked him off twice.

Hurricane Igor still pounding Bermuda

- A weaker Hurricane Igor started punishing Bermuda with squalls Sunday afternoon as it approached from the south, forecasters in Miami said.
- Igor is expected to turn northeast and increase in forward speed late Sunday night or Monday.
- The center said Igor, which had atrophied from a ferocious Category 4 to a Category 1 storm in the past week, was still "a very large hurricane" with hurricane-force winds extending 90 miles outward from the eye of the storm.
